Description
In December 2019, Dorothea Prühl was awarded the Art Prize of the State of Saxony-Anhalt and this book and DVD are published alongside the exhibition Ornament and Sculpture: New Works by Dorothea Prühl, held in honour of that award.
Dorothea Prühl combines sculptural presence with classic function and purpose in her jewellery. Ornament and Sculpture showcases one hundred of her works from the past sixty years. The book provides information about the genesis of each piece of jewellery with an accompanying account, based on autobiographical notes, of the life and work of the artist, born in Breslau in 1937 and now living and working in Halle an der Saale.
With forewords by Thomas Bauer-Friedrich, Carin Reinders and Arie Hartog and text by Renate Luckner-Bien.
The film on the DVD follows Dorothea Prühl to the places where she lives and works: Halle (Saale) and Augustenberg/Mecklenburg (Germany).
