Description
Working with metals, reconstructed stones and acrylics, Karin Johansson creates jewellery that is subtle and elegant, a harmony of colours, tactile textures, lightness, and dynamic shapes. ‘In the beginning, a variety of many-coloured images of a city: meeting points, streets, people, blue skies, night and day… Having it all transform into a necklace seemed only most obvious to me: no up, no down, wrapped around me, playing, constantly detouring in new directions. Wearing the object, I become the inhabitant of the new place’ – Karin Johansson
This publication, produced in collaboration with the design company Happy, features 20 necklaces from her Abstractions of a City series which she started in 2011. Unfolding the delicately coloured pages, the reader uncovers full-scale images of the necklaces in the collection. It is part of the graphic design collection of Die Neue Sammlung in Munich.
