Jewellery by Ute Eitzenhöfer is extravagant in many respects. It can be light, happy, pale, sensual and reassuring but also heavy, dark, angry, provocative and brutal. One thing is clear, however – it always has something to say. Her work confounds and disorientates the traditional, accepted viewpoint and demands that we question accepted notions of perceived value, our relationship to the world of things and of nature, our perceptions of beauty and adornment and their position within society.
With contributions from Cornelie Holzach, Wilhelm Lindemann and Marjan Unger, this publication invites us to take a walk through the world as Ute sees it – a world where plastic bottle tops become softly textured brooches and precious stones are not the sparkling symbols of wealth and luxury but nature laid bare, unrefined rocks and slices that allow their essential nature to sing out.
