Much of Florian Weichsberger’s recent work explores the meaning behind everyday objects and the stories they tell. After studying their function and aesthetic, he strips away, often literally, their purpose and transforms them into pieces of jewellery. How much can be taken away, he asks, before an object completely loses its identity, before it truly becomes something else?

Born in Umbertide in Italy in 1982, Florian has lived in Germany for more than twenty years. He was educated at the Staatliche Berufsfachschule für Glas und Schmuck in Kaufbeuren-Neugablonz and then at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich under Otto Künzli. In 2017 he was awarded the Herbert Hofmann Prize at Schmuck in Munich and in 2018 was the Françoise van den Bosch Foundation Artist in Residence. His work is held in the Marzee Collection and the Design Museum in ’s Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands.
