Karin Seufert

Karin Seufert’s work explores absence and the void. Her pendants, constructed from small dots of PVC, are unexpectedly light, hollow forms that have the illusion of weight and bring to mind architectural forms. Elsewhere, she takes a piece of jewellery connected to a particular person and highlights their absence in re-forming it. Wedding rings are filled with wax, cast in metal and the form set like a precious stone on a band. By showing the inside of the ring, she makes the absence of that one particular person the centre of our focus.

Born in Mannheim in Germany in 1961, Karin studied in the Netherlands, first at the technical school in Schoonhoven and then at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. Widely exhibited, her work can be seen in numerous collections such as the Marzee Collection, Museum Arnhem, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs et de la Mode in Marseille, the Racine Art Museum in Wisconsin in the US and the Hiko Mizuno College of Jewelry Collection in Tokyo.
