Susanna Loew
The principle of folding forms the basis for Susanna Loew’s jewellery. She works precious metals until they are paper-thin and soft and supple as a piece of cloth, allowing her to manipulate forms and surfaces that would be impossible to create with a hard, rigid sheet. Her astonishingly lightweight, crystalline or organic forms become expressive structures reminiscent of skeletons, dried plant and fruit forms and reptile skin.
Susanna was born in 1966 in Idar-Oberstein in Germany, where she undertook her goldsmiths’ apprenticeship between 1985 and 1989. She then studied at the Fachhochschule für Gestaltung Pforzheim before completing her master’s at the Royal College of Art in London in 1996.
