Annamaria Leiste
Annamaria Leiste’s quietly thoughtful work seeks beauty in remnants, the last discarded vestiges of things. Her work does not easily reveal its true nature to the casual viewer. It is the lingering, inquisitive eye which will be rewarded with a glimpse of animal bone or hedgehog spines encased in tiny glass elements, like precious objects protected by a bell jar.
Munich-based artist Annamaria Leiste was born in Milan in 1979. First educated at Parsons School of Design in New York, she went on to study in Otto Künzli’s class at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich between 2010 and 2016. Her work has been exhibited in Germany and the Netherlands and is held in the Alice and Louis Koch Collection in Switzerland.
